Although in its preliminary stages the McKinley Tech High School Robotics team is considering heading to CapeTown, South Africa by years end to spread the message of FIRST through the FIRST Lego League, utilizing the LEGO Mindstorms technology.
We would like to partner with a couple of schools and help them set up a FIRST Lego League possibly and expose their youngsters to a world of robotics at an early age. We may even bring a couple of VEX Robotics kits as well. Heard back from a couple of schools already. But still working on the logistics and funding. |

We didn't do that well @ the US Naval Academy. Our main driver who knew all of the rules became ill and we had to use our substitute driver. I still think we did well and learned quite a bit. We have decided to become a year round program and I think we will do much better next year.
The kids received valuable exposure and learned many valuable lessons for next year. |

It also goes hand in hand with FIRST regarding exposing young people to the fiels of science, applied mathematics and engineering. We have agreed to hold elections during our stay in Annapolis at the Chesapeake Regionals. |

A few Saturdays ago we met with the Carnegie Academy of Sciences. It appears to be a school for middle schoolers. Mr. Lesley and team 1915 have agreed to adopt them and assist them in developing a full fledged FIRST lego league team. It was fun meeting Dr. Horn and Mr. Derek Butts. They seem to have a great bunch of kids that are eager to learn about lego's and robotics. |
